WORTHINGTON YOUTH BOOSTERS
JUNIOR HOOPSTERS K and 1st Grade Boys/Girls
The WYB objective is to help children learn the game of basketball, practice their skills, and have fun with their friends in a semi-competitive environment. The players are taught teamwork and the fundamentals of basketball. We encourage parents and parent coaches to learn what fundamental skills their sons and daughters should focus upon to play basketball competitively in the future.
This program will emphasize fundamental skill instruction, fun, and 3 vs 3 games.
Clinics/Games are played on Saturdays from 9:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. beginning January 6, 2018 through March 3, 2018 at the Worthington Community Recreation Center. Coaches will have schedules at a later date.
Online registration will begin on November 15 and end December 15.
A late fee will be charged for registrations after December 15 provided there is still room in the program to add additional participants.
Payment is due at the time of registration in order for your child to be placed on a team.
Per WYB policy, all recreation teams must be made up of residents of the Worthington Local School District or by someone who attends schools within the Worthington School District. Exceptions can be considered if space in the program is open.
The 2017 - 18 cost per player is $85.
A t-shirt will be provided to each player. Tennis shoes, socks, and gym shorts are the responsibility of the player.
An intermediate (28.5”) sized basketball will be provided to each player. Each player should bring their basketball ball to all Saturday sessions.
A participation medal will be provided to each player. The medals are given to the players on the final session of the season.
Kindergarten, 1st grade and 2nd grade players will play on an 8.0 foot basket.
All players will be assigned to a team regardless of skill level. You will be contacted by your coach before January 6, 2018. If you have not received information from a coach by January 4, 2018, please contact the program director Bruce Gerber.
Teams will be developed based on elementary school, neighborhood, special requests if possible, and/or future middle school.
Our intent is to have separate boys and girls teams, but may possibly change that depending upon registration numbers.
Sessions will be for approximately one hour. The first half hour will be clinic/instruction and the remaining half hour will be 3 vs 3 scrimmage/instruction against another WYB team.
All clinic/instruction and games will be held at the Worthington Community Recreation Center in the north gym.
For 9 weeks beginning on January 6, 2018 you will have clinics/games each Saturday; the schedule will be presented in a separate handout by your coach. Times range from 9:45 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. Schedules will begin and end at specific times.
If any of the 9 sessions is canceled due to inclement weather, there will not be additional weeks added after the March 3, 2018 final session.
